Title: Carbs
Post by: kitkatz on February 17, 2007, 09:57:28 AM
I seem to be eating a lot of carbs lately.  I want snacks that are from the bread or carbs group.  I need to vary my diet alittle more.  Anyone found any snacks low in carbs?

Carbohydrate, by difference  g 0.5
Calcium, Ca  mg 25
Iron, Fe  mg 0.59
Phosphorus, P  mg 86
Potassium, K  mg 63

my husband eats 6 eggs a week now, after he has been so sick his appetite isn't what it used to be.before ESKD I used to cook him 12 at a time (no- he has no weight problem-he was a hard worker) but we limit most other forms of cholesterol-except butter lol
he's lucky his cholesterol is 166-neph told him as long as it stays low eat all the eggs you want-so ask your Dr. how many  you can have

Black olives - 1 0z - 2 carbs, 32 calories, 244 mg sodium ( I soak them in water for a few minutes, to take off some of the salt brine), 0.8 phos, 2.2 potassium.

Slim Jims - 3 pieces to a serving.  only 2 carbs.  430 mg sodium (A bit high, but that's for 3 pieces)  I don't have phos and potassium, but the ingredients list is pretty short -   Beef, Chicken, water, salt, corn syrup, flavoring, dextrose, paprika, corn gluten, soy and wheat gluten protiens, sodium nitrate, lactic acid starter culture.  Maybe not the best choice, but a reasonable substitute for when I'm craving something savory and I'd usually go for cheese and crackers.

I would love to find me some unsalted or lightly salted pork rinds for a 0 carb snack.
