Title: Question about B/P meds
Post by: peaches94 on August 05, 2012, 03:37:37 PM
OK here is the deal, I'm suppose to take 100Mg of metoporol twice a day and lisinopril 10mg once a day. My b/p started running really low like 89/60 so i stopped taking the metoporol in the mornings. that brought up a little bit but still feeling weak all the time. So i stopped taking metoporol all together and my b/p is still running in the low range round 108/66. My neph didn't take me off the metoporol i did it myself. Like i have stated b4 he dint seem to concerned with much of anything. Has anyone else had this problem and if so should i be concerned.  :thx; bunches

I've had low BP problems as well and was weaned off the metoprol but now I'm back on it due to a heart attack I had last week.  Cardiologist has said that if BP stays low, I can go down to 50 mg from 100 mg (once a day).  I would definitely not make any changes without discussing with your nephrologist.  Document your BPs and let him/her make the decision on a course of action.

I thought I remembered this - there is something called "rebound hypertension". If you are taking BP meds and suddenly go off, your BP can spike and possibly cause heart problems or other organ damage. A lot of medicines that you take regularly, if you go off them, have to be gone off gradually. Definitely talk to your doctor before stopping anything. I would even suggest that you resume your meds as prescribed until you get a chance to talk to him/her to find out what sort of adjustments to make. It also sounds like you may need to look at whether you want to continue with this guy, if he's really as "laissaiz-faire" as it sounds.

The problem is you don't know which medicine would be better to stop. Maybe you need less of each, or none of one, or a taper schedule. Please consult a doctor. Not all BP medicines work the same. You have a beta blocker and an ACE inhibitor and they work differently.

I have thesameproblemfrom time to time. Taking my BP meds when my morning readings are in the normal range cause me to crash during the day. I told him about it and he said to holdoffon the meds when I start the day in the normal range.

I have been told in the past to take my BP then decide to take or not take medicine. But the doctor told me what medicine, how much, and what the BP reading should be. Often BP meds need to be changed. I'm glad you're getting advice.

I am on both the Metroprolol and the Lisinopril.  The Lisinopril is what put me over the edge.  I was on 10 mg, and then went down to 5 mg once a day and it still made me sick.  I told my Neph. and he took me off of it.  Now I feel much better.  I take 100mg of the Met. in the AM and 50 at night.

Peaches, is there any way your nephrologist would see you sooner? If you're having trouble with BP as well as being able to eat, I really don't like to think of you waiting another 3 to 4 weeks to get it straightened out.

This is making me p%&*%$d off at your doctor  >:(

Peaches94, I don't know what the doctor situation is where you live but if there are two nephrologists I think I'd start seeing the other one.
