Title: Is there an App for that?
Post by: YLGuy on July 26, 2012, 12:55:39 AM
A comprehensive Renal App

It would be cool if there was an app that had your personal info and tracked ur labs for you.  It would be very cool if you could enter a food and quantity and it could tell you how many grams of sodium, potassium and phosphorous.  More importantly how many of your type of binders you should take if you eat it.

BTW, I do not even own a smart phone so I could not use it if there was one but I still think it would be cool.

Wow, good idea.  It got me thinking there should be a place on your phone you could list what is wrong with you.  Like a bracelet or necklace that I don't wear.  I always have my phone with me.

I took the liberty of doing a bit of research for you (it's only 30 seconds worth, I didn't try too hard!) ...

This is just someone's blog post, but it is recent and does detail a few apps, although only one seems to be the sort you would want and they didn't review it highly.  I expect that someone somewhere could make a good app. If you Google 'kidney apps android' there's a fair few apps shown, but I very much doubt they're relevant.  It seems like absolutely anybody can design and sell an app to the world ...

I think most phones do come with places to enter ICE information.  I know mine did, and it's over 6 years old now.  I've got two emergency contacts listed with relationship to me, my doctor's numbers, and a stripped down version of my health history under ICE.  Check in your menus for the In Case of Emergency section.

There a apps that pretty much can do that individually, just not in one app. There is even one to help keep track of fluid intake even tho it is not meant for dialysis patients. However this is with Apple, I do not know about Android.

I myself don't have a smart phone, but I use this site http://nutritiondata.self.com/ for all of my nutritional info. My boyfriend set up a spreadsheet that has the common foods we eat. We type in the food on the site, pick the ounce and then put it in the "reference" spreadsheet and I mark it down daily. :)
