Title: For those on D without insurance...
Post by: SteveK87 on July 12, 2012, 08:07:10 AM
..Or need some extra supplies, would you be interested in some extra supplies?  My wife is on home hemo..and they send a box every month with the same amount of supplies regardless if she needs them or not.  I'm not sure if this is something that we can call and adjust but regardless I'll be looking into it.  I started moving her supplies like gloves, needles, etc to our closet and we have a lot of extras that will go unused for months, which by then they would just send more.  So, I'm willing to help out if the reciever covers the shipping costs of the item(s).  Everything is unopened.  I still have 2 more boxes to organize and so far I can easily give away the following:

5 Boxes of Small gloves (I get on her all the time to use gloves the WHOLE time on D!)
6 Packages of Blue Chux
4 Boxes of 100 count Povidone-Iodine Prep Pads (Medium Size) (She breaks out in a rash when she uses these)
2 Bottles of 8fl oz ExSept Skin exit site wound cleaner (She breaks out from this too)
2 Bottles of McKesson Antimicrobial Lotion Soap
6 Boxes of 2x2 All Purpose Sponges
4 Boxes of Blue Procedure Masks

Steve, it is my understanding that your neph is the one who sends in the prescribed amount for your wife's needs.  Who does the ordering for her?  If they are just sending this stuff because they can, you need to tell neph and have he/she call and tell them to back off.  They don't care wether she uses them or not, cause they get paid by your insurance.

I would have the order decreased till you get some of your inventory down, or else you are going to be overloaded. My neph works real well with us on this and we have just enough supplies with a little for Emergency.

Does your wife have a fistula?  Some of the things you are recieving seem more like use on a graft or cath, so as to prevent infections (ie Iodine & the Lotion Soap).  Who sends the supplies?  If you are on NxStage, they send supplies too, that deal directly with dialysis, but Frescenius sends the other stuff, gloves, mask ect......

Yea she has a fistula and does home hemo.  I talked to her about cutting down the supplies for a few months.

And thanks Whamo, I thought for sure somebody could have used some of this stuff.  I'll tell her to ask her nurse or doc next time shes in if they can use the extra stuff.  Otherwise my sister suggested giving them to a veterinarian clinic? (Shes a cat lover)  Makes sense since I'm sure they always need supplies and almost everything they would be able to use.

Im glad she is going to cut back a bit, cause it can really take your home over!!!!  But it was very generous for you to offer to someone who may not afford it.

God Bless,
