Title: What to do with old medications??
Post by: smcd23 on July 02, 2012, 08:24:09 PM
I have a nice big box of old and expired prescriptions. The next take back day isn't until Sept 29th. There are no local pharmacies that take them back. Any suggestions on where I can dispose of them? I know I can crush them and put them in cat litter or coffee grounds and throw them out, but that seems potentially hazardous as they could still get into ground water. I am leaning towards tucking them away in a closet or something until September.

But my bigger question is where do I get rid of the Lovanox needles? He has 1.5 boxes of prefilled syringes that I don't know what to do with. The pharmacist told me they don't take them back. Do you think if I emptied them I could get rid of them at the dialysis clinic? I just don't want needles hanging around with a curious 2 year old in the house. He's pretty good about staying away from the cabinet where everything is kept, but it still makes me nervous because they are not childproof by any stretch of the imagination.
