Title: What if you go down
Post by: jimvaughan on July 01, 2012, 12:05:19 PM
What should your partner do if you were to blackout say from low blood pressure while on dialysis?

Same thing mine did in that situation, I guess: started giving saline, shook me and yelled my name 'til I came to.

Flip the recliner to feet up, head down.  Open the saline lines.  Stop the fluid pull.  This usually brings the person back quickly. Most likely, you'll be able to continue the session, with lower or no fluid removal, at least for a while.

If not - call 911,  (Checking pulse and starting CPR if needed, of course.)  stop D, begin rinseback, keep pushing saline until EMS arrives.

The only time I've been close to that I went down, was vomiting and semi-conscious. My wife called my PD team emergency number and they walked her through giving me fluids and getting me back on my feet. Fortunately the episode only lasted a few minutes and I was ok after that. But it did throw a scare into my darling wife. We hope nothing like that happens again.

Yep yep. Feet up and push the saline.

I dropped Hubby's BP to 70/40 while we were still training, and fluids fixed him up in a quick jiffy. (Really quick. Minutes.)

 That's weird, my wife and I were talking about this earlier today. I told her if she freaks out too bad to call 911 asap. But I trust her to get me through it. I hope I don't ever have to find out :pray;
