Title: American Access Care
Post by: Hazmat35 on June 28, 2012, 10:59:02 AM
Has anyone had any dealings with this company or know anything about them?  My Dialysis center has recommended that I use this place to have my Fistula looked at.

They have been having issues with my Fistula clotting and think that maybe it is time to have it "cleaned out" again.  I have never heard of them until yesterday, and also learned that my Nephrologist sends his Pre-Dialysis patients there to have their Fistulas done.

I used American Access for about three years and loved them.  I left my vascular surgeon when I got tired of being bump from cleanings or when the fistula collapse. The hospital would commandeer operating rooms when emergencies arrived. This happen so often I went 2.5 months with a bad fistula doing treatments, and feeling terrible due to having bad numbers.

My nephrologist got tired of my vascular surgeon and sent me to American Access with a schedule surgery the very next morning.  They are great as they have their own operating rooms and a fully trained experience staff.  I ran into a nurse that works in the hospital dialysis unit who was working there to my surprise.  I am only speaking of the two American Access locations I went to in NYC, but I believe most are run the same.

Hope this helps.

 I used them for my catheter and was very impressed. The wait time is next to nothing and the surgeon that I had was very good. The office that I used is in Cherry Hill, NJ.

So far, from everyone that I have talked to, I have NOT heard anything bad about them.  That is one reason why I am leaning toward this place, is the quick turn around time.  If I go to my regular Vascular Surgeon, you have to schedule at least 3 appointments to get things done, before they ever do any procedures.  This place; American Access, seems to be a ONE STOP SHOP.

I called to our local place yesterday, and already had a time / date scheduled.  They called my Dialysis center and had all my paperwork and insurance info sent over.

So far so good anyway.   I guess we shall see on July 9 when I have my proceedure done.

Well, on Monday, I had my appointment with American Access Care in Orlando, FL.  I was very nervous and very sceptical, since I hadn't gotten much info on the place or much feedback from people.  I tried to do my research, but wasn't able to get any info on what people actually thought of the place once they were done.

Anyway.   I went in @ 11:00 AM, and I was completely done and on my way home by 1:15 PM.  WOW.

The nurse came in and asked tons of routine questions.  Then the surgeon came in and asked tons more. He (the surgeon) wheeled in an Ultrasound machine, and scanned my arm up and down and showed me where the issues were located, and what he was going to do.  Then he brought in the ACTUAL materials he was going to use, and thoroughly explained what he was going to do, and how much pain I would actually feel.

Then, off to the operating room.  They prepped me, while the surgical nurse and the 1st nurse, made me feel very much at ease.     Then the surgeon came in, again, explained what he was doing and then gave me a shot of LIDICANE right in the fistula.  WOW, NO IV!  Never heard of such a thing.

The Lidicane, stung bad, but only for a few seconds.  Then he gave me a slight sedation medication to relax me.  Then he started his procedure.  It seemed like only a few minutes, but the procedure was about 45 minutes from start to finish.

I have to say, I was NEVER in any pain to speak of, nore was I nervous.  They took excellent care of me.  Afterwards, my g/f drove me to Dialysis, and I did my 4 hours "sleeping" off the sedation the surgeon gave me.

I am very happy with this place.  They did EVERYTHING a normal "surgeon" would do in 4 office visits, they did it all in 2 hours.  I highly recommend the facility in Orlando, FL.   :yahoo;

 :2thumbsup;  I'm glad your procedure went so well, and that you didn't have a lot of pain.  It's always nerve-wracking when you have to go to an unknown facility, I'm glad they took such good care of you.  Sounds like an excellent facility.

Thank you, all, for the kind words and thoughts.   :waving;
