Title: Sleepiness during the day and chills
Post by: CatonTheRoof on June 26, 2012, 05:48:32 PM
Has anyone of you experienced chills or sleepiness during the day? even if you're sleeping around 8/9 hours?

My creatinine levels are at around 6.0,  I'm on 8 hours night treatment of peritoneal dialysis, and my blood pressure tends to be stable without the need of medications. I only take 1/4 of 50 mg metoprolol each 12 hours.

I don't know what happens to me.  Could it be that the cause for all of this is that I spend much time studying in front of the computer during the day, without moving so much?   the temperatures in my city and inside the flat are usually around 17 degrees, all year long so its not like its freezing cold.

From the blood works point of view everything's great, I keep the function of urinating normally, and the electrolites are ok.   Could it be that the blood pressure goes down a bit too much because of the metoprolol?  or maybe the fact that I still urinate normally plus that the dialysis takes liquid away from me at night, is dehydratating me causing this effect?

By the way, sometimes I have dark shadows under the eyes. What's the exact cause for this?

Beta blockers like metoprolol can make you cold. I don't know if your dose is high enough for that.

On PD I was tired all the time. I slept about 12 hours a night. Then when I was awake I was tired. Some people don't feel it but some of us do. I think it's the toxins in your body and how your body reacts to that. Dialysis keeps you alive but it does not clear out all the toxins.

Unfortunately I have no good ideas for how to fix it. I think you just have to endure.

It's 90 degrees almost everyday these days where I live.  So I'd like to feel a chill for a change.  But I shouldn't complain because it's dry heat, and I have A/C.

I'm not on dialysis yet, but toprol makes me very sleepy.

When my hemoglobin level is lower I get so sleepy that I can sleep for 14 or 15 hours a day.  And I feel cold too -- I have the heat on even in the summer.

I'm on PD 8 hours per night and am constantly tired, too. The therapy really pulls off protein so you have to be sure your intake is enough to compensate. My problem is compounded by cycler alarms waking me at all hours of the night.

Thanks for your replies.

The problem is not about hemoglobin, as mine is in 14.4.   I believe it was more because of inertia, or feeling cold at home.. even perhaps the toprolol was causing it.   As I usually only get this problem if I remain at home, when I go out I feel as good as normal, can make sport and such.
