I saw the doctor today and he said that I need to lose about 40 lbs... question is... I was doing some calculations, I'm 210lbs, 5'5" and I want to lose about 2 lbs a week. Is a 1310 calorie diet a day, too little? Or is it about right? Any dieticians out there?

I don't know if those calories are right. I know it takes a change of 3500 calories per week to lose 1 pound a week. So you either have to eat less or exercise more or both to eliminate those 3500 calories. I don't think you should starve yourself. Pay attention to a balanced diet. Get the nutrition you need to stay healthy. Walking is good exercise for almost everyone. Even if you're unable to walk you can do some arm exercises. Good luck.

My husband was advised to lose weight, he went to my dietictian. She told him to eat a certain caloric intake for his weight and eat high protein snacks, not to let too many hours go between his meals, not more than 4 hours. Going without food for too many hours makes you hungrier= a person to want to eat more at meal times. He has since lost about 20 pounds and it seems to have helped him so far.

Here is some advice you could chose to take or not. Don't drive yourself nuts counting calories. Get rid of all prepackaged foods and eat lots of protein (protein will keep you full longer so you won't snack on carbs).
If your exercising, don't just do cardio but some weights and you dont even have to belong to the gym. Pick up some elastic resistence bands and use those while watching tv.

I Was just googling about calorie intake per day as I need to gain weight but most Is about lo sing! Here's What I just read :
UK Department of Health Estimated Average Requirements (EAR) are a daily
calorie intake of 1940 calories per day for women and 2550 for men.
How many calories are needed each day can vary greatly depending on lifestyle and other factors.
Factors that affect your personal daily calorie needs include your age, height and weight, your basic level of daily activity, and your body composition.
You can find out the daily calorie intake recommended for you free, using the tools in WLR. Simply tap in your details and the programme will work out how many calories you need. Try it Free
In order to lose weight you need to eat less calories per day than your body
needs. To lose 1lb a week you need a negative calorie balance of 500 calories
per day. To lose weight at 2lb a week you need to reduce your calorie intake by 1000 calories a day.
I'm not a dietician but judging by that the amount you suggested Would just about get off 1lb x
