Hi gsdlover,

I had my central line in for 1.5 years, never once had an infection of any sort.  I took really good care of mine and never had a problem with it.

Don't get it wet, and things should be fine, but get a fistula when you can.

I had a cath for nine months.  I had one staph infection, but I caught it early and it was just a forced four-day "vacation" in the hospital while they pumped me full of vanco and swapped out caths.

I had one for 6 mos. Keep it clean and dry. Glad Press & Seal is good for when you bathe. Use a hand held shower head and aim it strategically. Make sure the techs wear masks and gloves when changing the dressings. It should be ok if everyone follows the rules.

Report any fevers immediately.
