Title: I freaked out today (thats nothing new!)
Post by: frankswife on June 09, 2012, 07:05:55 PM
Frank had some kind of an "episode" today. Dont know how else to describe it. He had taken a 5 mile walk, and then about 2 hours later he said he didn't feel good, that his legs hurt. Then he threw up. I'm thinking OMG, it's dialysis time. I wanted to bring him right to the ER but he refused. He took a nap and felt better when he got up. I'm hoping it was just from that walk. I hate when he gets it into his head to do stuff like that. GRRR! Thanks for letting me rant :rant;

i wouldnt worry about trying to decide when its dialysis time, let his labs decide... if u keep stressing it its as bad as actually being on dialysis enjoy the freedom and try to prolong what kidney function he has left

I freaked out the other day when Gregory's potassium was high for the first time.  Tears, overwhelmed, etc.  Sometimes the wheels fall off - mine do anyway.  Later I was reminded that we don't worry about individual readings, we worry about trends.   Good.  Waiting to see what the next labs look like.  Meanwhile, returning to your man, who came good;  hopefully those kinds of things will only happen 'now and again' for awhile longer.  Frank knew to wait and see, they learn that, don't they, and when you give the body a bit of time to rest things straighten out.

I may be oversimplifying things, but it seems to me that if Frank can walk five miles, he's not ready for dialysis just yet.

And natnnat, you're right to look for trends and not focus overly much on onetime lab results.
