Title: Bitter taste in mouth?
Post by: CatonTheRoof on June 05, 2012, 11:12:44 PM
Hello there again people, I had been busy and so had not come back over here :)

Can anyone please help me please?    For about one week I have been feeling a bitter taste in my mouth, I don't think that its because of toxins building as I urinate more than 3 liters per day and do 4 exchanges of dialysis during the night.    The two things that have happened of lately have been:
1)  I have eaten more sweets than I usually do, actually almost a dessert all afternoons. Could this be the reason?
2)  They gave me some iron last week,  same week when this bitter taste started.

I would appreciate any help!

If you got iron, that could do it. I find that I get a metallic taste in my mouth when I'm taking elevated amounts of iron and when they give me IV iron to get my stores up.

I would agree that it's probably the iron.  I used to get all sorts of weird tastes in my mouth when doing in-center dialysis.  I was convinced I was developing diabetes.  Now that I switched to home hemo and no longer get any medications other than EPO, the taste issue has gone away completely.
