Title: switching to PD after years of hemo (all kinds)
Post by: happyonhemo on June 01, 2012, 01:37:19 PM
I didn't realize how long it had been since my last post. That was a year ago and I had just come home from the hosp in fluid overload.Right after that I had to go back and have a cardiac window put in to relieve the pressure of the fluid around my heart.During those few days my fistula of many yrs clotted. They put in a catheter until I got a graft because my veins couldn't support a new fistula and ever since then dialysis has been a horror show. Mostly because I have lost almost all feeling in my hands from beta2m amyloidosis which makes cannulating hard.Anyway, I'm on home hemo with NxStage and now considering switching to CCPD.  I think the pros are-less work every day for my husband, more time during the day,and maybe it will be beneficial to the amyloidosis. I'm looking for any input from others before making a decision. Thanx so much.

If your Neph and clinic think it is something you can do, then I say try it!  What have you to lose?  That's what great about having different options available.  Give it a try, if you see its not what you want, then by all means switch back.

Good luck & God Bless,
