I envy you big time! Swimming was my main form of exercise pre-dialysis and just one of those things I loved to do everyday. when I started dialysis I initially had a catheter so had to stop swimming. Then got a peritoneal catheter which also means no swimming in pools. I am doing hemodialysis right now while Im pregnant and would love to go swimming, but still have this PD catheter! I do go to the beach on occassion but its not the same. Oh well...One day :)

Thanks for your congrats!!!! :beer1; :grouphug;
It was a short-term goal for me meaning it was something I wanted to do once I was healed from having the central line removed. :thumbup;
It was a big milestone for me!! :flower; :cheer:

@Lovebelle I go swimming with my PD catheter... But i have some rules before I go into the pool. First off no public pool, I don't trust those at all. But if you have a a pool or know someone with a pool, you can use it. One the pool has to be crystal clear, like when you look into it that you can see to the bottom perfectly and no haze at all. Two when you go try not to have too many people with you, my sister had a baby shower and a pool party, so I refused to go in. I don't go if there are very young kids in the pool just cuz you don't know if they pee in there. My brothers and sisters knew better when they were younger so I would only go with them. Oh and i do ask others to rinse off, just cuz of things like sweat and stuff to to come off in the pool. But other than that I have gone swimming many times. I have gotten a couple of infections and had to learn from them what was wrong in the pool. But last year I didn't have a problem at all.

congrats ! sounds awesome :bow;

Thanks Mcclane! :cuddle;
I seem to remember hearing that you can swim in a pool with a PD cath too, but from what I heard, it has to be one that very few ppl swim in or only yourself, from what I recall.
A friend of mine went in the ocean, even though she knew she wasn't supposed to.

Cordelia,
After my line came out I ended up taking 6 months of swimming lessons. I love the water you feel so free.

I went again today, granted I didn't have as much fun this time as the pool was packed today. Today is a holiday here and its super hot, so I guess that's why everyone flocked to the pool today. I got beamed in the head with a ball twice and kicked in the butthole by somebody. Definitely not as enjoyable so I didn't spend as much time in the water today. Oh well, it's a public swim.
I basically stayed near the edges of the pool and I still got hurt.
But one thing I'm noticing that I forgot is that after a swim, I'm so hungry! LOL! :rofl;
-
Swimming is an excellent source of exercise, so I bet you were hungry!

I sure was! What a great way to work up an appetite! ;D

COrdelia,
I use to eat 1/2 sandwhich after working out with swimming cause if I didn't i was dropping weight like crazy and I was already tiny. I gained 6 lbs since starting dialysis and I'm trying to keep it on, since I was under weight when I start D, since I had no appetite at all.
-
My appetite came back once I started dialysis. When I started the renal diet, I lost 75 pounds in about 1.5 yrs of being on dialysis.
I haven't lost anymore, I've remained steady for almost 6 months now.
