Title: Normal BP but high pulse rate?

This has been an ongoing issue for my wife.  She has her BP under control..actually near perfect..but her resting pulse rate is anywhere from 100-120..especially after treatment.  What can we do about it?  Her nurse said to just take a half of her BP med even  if it's normal just to help with the heart function.  I don't really think that makes any sense but I'm not sure.  She is going to mention it to the doctor next visit but I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and what they did about it.  Thanks.

Yes, this is the case with me also. I was told that the high pulse rate is due to anemia. I've noticed that if my hemoglobin is higher, my pulse seems to be better. My neph only has me on one BP med and it's strictly to keep my pulse under control. The name of the med is metropolol. You may want to check it out with your neph.

High pulse rate could be due to anemia, dehydration, low blood pressure, or a number of other things. What is her BP med? If it's a beta blocker like metoprolol or atenolol, yes, it would help keep her heartrate lower.

Talk to her nephrologist about it.

I am on a beta-blocker for migraines as my bp is good. If I have to stop taking it if I suck too much fluid off my heart rate shoots right up. I don't like that feeling.

Thanks for the input everyone.  She was on metoprolol in the past but was switched to labetalol because the metoprolol wasn't controlling her BP well enough.  With her BP under control I don't see why the doc wouldn't let her go back on metoprolol and taking a whole pill to try and help her heart rate.  I know she has anemia, and she just recently did labs and they didn't mention any concerns about the hemoglobin levels.  Her biggest thing is the phosphorus (she has a thing for cheese  :oops; )  Finally got her good with that again though.  I don't blame her for being stubborn sometimes and "forgetting" to take the binders (she takes Fosrenol chew able tablets).  I tried a half..and although bearable, don't think I would enjoy chewing one every time I ate something.
