Title: Communication
Post by: kitkatz on March 24, 2012, 10:03:43 PM
I have been on dialysis for thirteen years.  I find myself not communicating with people nowadays. I have noticed I do not say much anymore on the boards here on IHD. I do not talk to my Mom or sisters very often. Just not exactly communicating with anyone.  I do not think I have had a PM in months.  Not complaining. I know it is my own fault.  But I have dialysis eight hours a day for three days a week. I am working full time as a 6th grade special ed teacher.   My youngest daughter complained over the phone that we do not communicate.  If she wants to hear from me, then she should call ME!  Or email me. I just feel right now if anyone wants me, they should email me, or call me or Facebook me.

I guess I have crawled under my rock and if the world wants me they are going to have to make an effort.

Kit, I have noticed that about you too. You used to be on IHD all the time, now you never post. Do you think you could be a little depressed?

You contribute so much to this forum, kitkatz, don't stop now!   I've felt and said the same things.  "The phone lines run in both directions!" was my favorite reply when people complained that I didn't call.  But now most of my family is gone and I wish I could pick up the phone just to say hi.  The problem was always that I was so tired (still am).  I think, with your full schedule and dealing with this illness, you are too.  Just a few thoughts...All the best to you, kit.

I do not post that much here or anywhere. I find I have nothing to say. I share the same daily routine most of you do, the three days a week we travel to dialysis, the cramps and tiredness that come with it. KK, you reply to our posts and give us comfort with your answers, thats cool. If you win the lottery or something grand like that, please share with us.  :2thumbsup;

Dear KK I agree with all of the above, but I think you could use some rest, and maybe some happy-pills. I can't believe you are capable of working a fulltime job like that, and D, and blame yourself for not communicating. I'm on D this side of TX now, and am absolutely not capable of working fulltime full stop. Give yourself a brake.

Lots of luck, and strength

Cas

How well I know how exhausting teaching can be WITHOUT even bringing dialysis into the equation. I have often wondered how to manage, and admired you for your grit.

 :cuddle;

I certainly agree with what others have said. The phone/email/FB lines are open at both ends.

Here I'm not on dialysis yet.... on the edge though.   I can relate so much with what you're going thru.  I have no family here and some friends but feel I feel so isolated because I'm here alone, feeling like poop most of the time and unless I go to town I don't talk with anyone except on here.   I don't have much to add to anyones posts but I do have questions all the time.

It sucks being alone and dealing with CKD

You can only do so much.  Communication takes energy and my bet is you've run out of energy by the time you've worked and survived dialysis.  Don't be too hard on yourself.  I think if we are honest we all kind of circle the wagons when we are sick.  I know I only communicate with others on my terms.  I don't answer the phone when it rings unless I want to.  I screen all calls.  I use email and text a lot because I can control when I respond.  Even these boards take energy!  Give yourself a break!  Decide who the people are in your life who feed your soul, who do you always feel better after you've talked to.  Let them in and let the others slide.  Be as kind to yourself as you are to others!!!!! :flower;

How long have you been on an eight-hour a day regimen?  I'm sure that has something to do with crawling under your rock   :(

I can't imagine teaching sightings going on.  I used to teach, and burned myself out.

hugs to you!

I taught high school for 15 years, and I can't imagine teaching and then spending eight hours at dialysis.  I'd be grading papers the whole time.  If you can afford going on disability you might consider that.  I know it's tough to do though, especially nowadays, with inflation and all.
