Can a fistula develop a leak? I'm wondering because on the 14th, the center (with my agreement) tried to move up from 16's to 15's. It didn't work. Ever since then, the whole area around my fistula has been one huge bruise. It hasn't gotten better (changed colour) if anything, it seems to get worse with each treatment. Is it something I should be worried about?

sounds like infultration to me which is 'sort' of a leak but not really.. It is blood leaking but not from proper placement of needle, but from improper placement of needle. Did they mention infultraition? Most of us have experienced this at least once.

I agree with BW. Also ask them to stick needles away from the bruise if possible. Don't be worried, it will go away.
good luck, love Cas

No, it's not infiltration. I've that happen before and this is different. They can't stick away from the bruise, it's all around my fistula. The only response I got when I asked today was, "I've seen worse."

There were a few times when J had his new fistula, his VS would go in and tie off "small veins" that sprouted from his fistula. Until, as I understand it, the fistula walls thicken or harden, this can happen. It did happen in J's case, but was very easily remedied. Just get it checked out, but that is the only thing that I can think of in the way of leakage. Also, if these little sprouts of viens arent tied off, they can get bigger and rob the fistula of its job percentage wise.
I would talk to Doc or VS and see if they can check it!

:pray; I've noticed the bruises from my fistula, which is fairly new, have gotten smaller with time. Hopefully, yours will too.

I would check with the surgeon and have him look at it just to be safe.

i agree, especially if not an infiltration. Ive had to have loads of stuff done to mine over time. Go to the surgeon who put it in.

Good news! The bruising FINALLY went away! :cheer: They have even started button holes. Once they get good and established, I told them I want to learn to stick myself. :bandance;

Good for you Cebushan. That is fantastic, and the fact that you are willing to try it yourself is awesome! Good luck, and let us know how you are coming along!
