Title: Quotes
Post by: kitkatz on February 04, 2007, 06:07:03 PM
Quotes: Please folks, when you use the quote button remember to put your comments after the quote is over.  Sometimes comments are being written in the quotes areas.  Quote first, then add your comment underneath the quote stuff.  I am sure we are driving our mods crazy by doing the quotes wrong.

I love you kitkatz.  :-*

But seriously the problem is that some members do not scroll all the way down till after they see the final "/quote" close tag.

See the pictures below for an explanation.  :thumbup;

I was thinking that pics would be good to explain what I was talking about, but I am not that computer fluent yet.  Thanks.  That is exactly what I meant!

Can this be stickied so people can see how to do it right?

Because they are still not understanding. Here is a screenshot of 2 people who made 2 different very common quote mistakes one after another (http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=2816.msg40210#msg40210):

All [quote] codes must be closed with a close [/quote] code. People are getting confused when quoting someone who has already quoted another (multiple quotes).

One more thought - if you want to quote only part of someone's post - you just have to erase the parts you don't want after inserting it, but you must be certain to leave the bracketed "quote" lines in place.

If you want to quote multiple posts -
Click on REPLY
Scroll down under your text box to view previous posts.
Click on Insert Quote for a post that you want to comment on.
Write your comment
Again, click on Insert Quote for another post that you want to comment on.
Write comment
Finish by clicking on post.

It will look like this:

Quotes: Please folks, when you use the quote button remember to put your comments after the quote is over.  Sometimes comments are being written in the quotes areas.  Quote first, then add your comment underneath the quote stuff.  I am sure we are driving our mods crazy by doing the quotes wrong.

Good advice Kit.

Yes, begin and end with the appropriate quote prompts.

Suggestion:  Add one more step after "Write comment" and before "Finish":  Click on "Preview" to see if you've done it right or need to make adjustments.

This has saved my butt a bunch of times!

Yes! Good addition Xtreme - If we all did spell check and preview we would catch more errors in our posts.
