I'm still pre dialysis but very close. I've noticed this last month that my fingernails are paper thin and splitting a lot more then they ever did before. Is this a common symptom with CKD? I thought it might be the winter weather but it's never been like this and I don't know what to do to protect them.

I'm guessing so, briddle hair/nails I know is a sign of hypothyroidsm.

Don't know, River, never paid that much attention to his nails. Hope someone can answer this for you.

I don't know how common it is, but I had problems with my nails being dry and my hair falling out in clumps. I started taking zinc on the suggestion of another patient at my old center and it really seemed to help the situation.

hmmm my hair has been kinda dry lately too even though i use conditioner as I always have.

This is a kind of reverse response - I've noticed an improvement in my nails and hair since transplant.

It could also be a symptom of a nutritional imbalance, maybe a low albumin. When my albumin got really low, my hair fell out. Your nails could be suffering too.
