Title: SEVERE CRAMPING IN STOMACH AND SIDES NEAR LOWER RIB CAGE WHILE OFF AND ON MACHIN
Post by: Anitar28 on January 15, 2012, 06:52:06 AM
HELLO, MY HUSBAND HAD BEEN ON HOME HEMODIALYSIS(HE DIALIZES 6 DAYS A WK.) FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND HALF NOW. HE WOULD ALWAYS GET LEG CRAMPS ON THE MACHINE AND ALSO DURING THE NIGHT.  I HAVE BEEN READING SOME POSTS AND WE WILL BE TRYING THE QUNINE AND TONIC WATER. THE ISSUE WE ARE HAVING NOW IS HE HAS BEEN GETTING SEVERE CRAMPS IN HIS STOMACH AND ALSO ON HIS SIDES LIKE AROUND THE LOWER RIB AREA..NOT ONLY WHILE HE IS DIALYZING BUT ALSO ON AND OFF THROUGH THE DAY. HAS ANYONE BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS AND IF SO HAVE YOU FOUND ANY REMEDIES.. ANY HELP OR INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I don't know which devil decides where I get cramps.  I've had them in my tongue.  It seems to be "ME" if I reach for something it is my arm that cramps, if I stretch, which seems uncontrollable, it is my feet or calves, if I try to sit up it may be my sides or stomach.  Try the Tonic Water before dialysis and after dialysis.  It is hell and I know what he is going through.  Have him try to "not move".

Tonic Water.... keep it in his system.

Yes, water usually stops the cramps.

It's unusual that he's doing dialysis almost daily and he's getting abdominal cramps. How long does he dialyze for?  It sounds like the rate of fluid removal is higher than his rate of vascular refilling, or the goal is being set too high. Maybe his dry weight needs to go up a bit?

For remedies, I drink 150ml of Gatoraid (or other sports drink) with 1 Quinine Sulphate tablet before bed.

I have been getting cramps when I'm too dry after dialysis, which pass after drinking water.  Recently I learned I have a complex cyst in my gallbladder, which will probably require surgery.  I usually don't get cramps if I don't eat too much sodium laden foods.  If I do, I bloat, even with fluid restriction.
