Title: Dull Pain in my Chest
Post by: pagandialysis on January 07, 2012, 10:16:31 PM: For the last month my chest has been bothering me. Its nothing really painful....its not even painful really. But there is this dull feeling in my chest. I am terrified that its phosphorus related. I am going to call my doctor on Monday and see is we can have a look.

I wanted to know what kind of tests they do to check our hearts.

Post by: hubbyhatesdialysis on January 07, 2012, 10:30:41 PM: My hubby had chest pains when he was anemic but they were bad chest pains that sent him to the ER so that may not have anything to do with it but maybe check just in case. If they are concerned it is your heart then they will prob do an EKG.

Post by: Riki on January 07, 2012, 11:36:19 PM: I was thinking EKG too. They're simple, quick, and they can tell a lot. I have one once a year to stay on the transplant list.

Post by: Annig83 on January 08, 2012, 02:22:28 PM: I just had this happen to me about 6 weeks ago. I had a case of bronchitis that caused swelling in my rib cage and lungs. I saw my doctor too and they put me on some steroids that helped with the inflammation. (The type they gave me is only for those who are NOT diabetic), it cleared up about a week ago, but it was very painful and I had a lung scan and an EKG to make sure things were alright.

Trust me, every time I feel a little 'off', I have to hold myself back from running to the emergency room !! If it happens during a weekday, I make a quick call to my doctor down the street and ask if I can stop in for a few minutes. Sometimes, just a quick check of my lungs and heart, etc brings a lot of mental relief ! And my cardiologist isn't that far away either !

Post by: glochis on January 08, 2012, 06:51:14 PM: My daughter spent last New Years Eve day in the hospital due to chest pain. Very scary. EKG, echo, lung scan, tons of blood work the only thing they found was anemia and elevated potassium. Thirty hours later she went home on pain meds. She had pneumonia the week before, not sure how that played into it. Hope yours in just and unbalance.

Post by: SteveK87 on January 08, 2012, 11:19:22 PM: Definitely worth getting checked out. When my wife had pains in her chest with high BP I took her to the hospital to get it checked out. They did blood work and discovered her calcium was really elevated and did an echocardiogram and EKG and noticed there was fluid around the heart. They kept her for 2 days and did some dialysis treatments until her calcium was back to normal and the BP was down. They adjusted her BP meds and took her off one of her meds for calcium and all is well. But if you say it isn't painful I wouldn't be too worried but it isn't something to shrug off either.
