Title: Phosperous
Post by: Riverwhispering on December 27, 2011, 05:00:23 PM
Question for those that are close but not yet doing dialysis.   What is your daily limit on how much Prosperous you can have to keep your level in the normal range?   The Renal dietitian I saw told me no more then 1,000 mg a day.

It's been too long for me to remember, even if they did give me a mg limit.  They did start me on binders long before D though.  If you are having trouble keeping to some low limit, you might ask about getting binders now.  They may be chalky and nasty, but it beats trying to avoid everything you like to eat!

My doctor would love to start me on binders now but I have no medical insurance and he said they are very expensive.  I can barely afford to do the labs and pay for my doctor visits as is.

Ask him about using Tums. You only need to be careful on how much you take and keep an eye on your calcium levels.

Dietitian told me to keep the phosphorus at 800-850 milligrams.  I am at Stage 4 not yet on D.  I suppose everyone is different.  Have a Happy New Year, hoping 2012 in an improvement of the past year!
