I don't not have a lot of knowledge about the medications taken for high blood pressure but believe that a side effect can be a constant dry cough as my husband has been experiencing. Does anyone have this and if so, what medication are you taking? Thank you.

Atenolol is supposed to cause a dry cough but I don't have that problem with it; it could just be that I've taken it for so many years my body's become accustomed. I did, however, have a dry cough for the brief period of time when I switched to lisinopril.
The only time I get a dry cough now is when I run out of Zyrtec. It usually takes me a couple days to figure it out.

Atenelol gave me a dry cough when I was taking it. Made it hard to lay down and take a nap. But, my Dr. switched me to something else and no more problem.

I was on atenolol for years with no issues but my neph changed it to lisinopril and then the cough began. He said the cough doesn't usually go away and switched me to losartan. That gave me sudden wrenching back spasms, but I reduced the dosage and worked my way back up and now it's fine. Then I read someone else's experience where they said their cough went away by itself after some months although I don't remember what med they were talking about.

I once read about a study that found the using lisinopril and topical capsaicin at the same time showed an increase in coughing as a side effect. I wouldn't be surprised if it also happened if you ate spicy food, or if it interacted with any number of other things in the air.

lisinopril, I don't take it in fact not on any bp meds at all but I know someone who was on it and had the same thing, my grandma had the same problem before her meds changed but not sure which one she was on.

lisinopril caused me to cough constantly, I only took it for three weeks it was so bad, I take lovastatin now

Lisinopril is one of my blood pressure meds, but I've never got the dry cough from it.
-
I'm on 5 mg of Amlodipene, never had a problem with coughing although I have heard some certain bp meds can cause a chronic cough.

I don't know anything about those drugs or the side effects, but has he been tested for mild asthma? I had a dry cough for along time and come to find out I needed an inhaler. I am on hypertensive meds, but can't remember the name of the medication I was on pre-transplant. I have a ProAir inhaler to take just as needed and it does help. I hope you get it worked out. I'm sure it's not fun for him.

I've taken Lisinopril in the past and experienced the dry cough from it..so bad I had to switch medications. Ashley also has the same issue but she takes Labetalol with Sensipar and Norvasc. Not sure if the combination of her meds causes the dry cough or if it is from the Labetalol. From my understanding quiet a few of BP meds have the dry cough side effect.

They are putting me on lisinopril and one of the first things the doctor mentioned was a constant cough as a potential side effect.

I was on Bisporal for two weeks and stopped taking it. No cough with it, either but I had horrible leg cramps that would jolt me awake from a deep sleep. :thumbdown;
