Title: Yawning
Post by: ToddB0130 on October 28, 2011, 02:54:10 PM
I am yawning a lot .... even though I don't "feel tired".  Sometimes when I go to take a really deep breath,  it will *stop* before it finishes and then turns into a big yawn instead.

I talked to the PA at my doctor's office today and explained that I'm not exerting myself (it happens often when I'm at the computer at home or at work).  It doesn't seem to be 'shortness of breath' or 'difficulty breathing'.  It just feels weird that sometimes I can't just deeply inhale and then deeply exhale without the exhale becoming a yawn.

Anyone familiar with this ??   THANKS

 :rofl;    Aleta!

Todd, you're not alone, I do it too, more times than I care to count, it most often times happen while sitting in the big D chair.......it drives me nuts!

I try to be very discreet about it because the one nurse the one time switched my bp check to every freakin' 15 mins instead of once every half hour "JUST because I was yawning" I was like, What?! Apparently, from what she said is that the sign of yawning means your blood pressure has lowered, and it's low, I was like, WTF?!

Don't know if that really offers any insight for you or not. Now, I'm damn careful that the nurses don't see me yawning too often    ;D

Well, it happens at home too, but more often at D LOL    :rofl;

Aleta, me too!!!  I think alot of it is just "Fall" time of year.  It is so gloomy here with the cloudy days.  I do tend to yawn more when bored too.

Aha !!  Back to THIS topic.

The "freako" yawning thing I was talking about below is happening more frequently lately.

Sooooooo ........ I committed the mortal sin ........... that's right,  i googled the symptom.  (DOH !!)  ..... Google "unable to complete yawn or finish deep breath"

But .... guess what ??  People's responses pretty much describe it to a 'T'

Seems to be related to anxiety (Hello ?? Anyone who has read the thread I started 'Talking Yourself Off The Ledge' *knows* that I have anxiety) and it also says it's treated with Xanax (which was prescribed to me three months ago,  but I've really avoided taking it)

There's also some mention of it possibly being related to something called 'Chronic Hyperventilation Sydrome',  which I have to read up on (oh, great ...just what I need ....ANOTHER chronic disease).

It's kind of nice to know it's 'not all in my head' and other people seem to suffer from it. Not so nice that it's really not too treatable and that my doctor's were just kind of saying "Well you're over tired".  We'll see what they say NOW.

It really IS annoying.

yes yawning could mean low bp and being tired on the machine as well could be low bp.

My hubby was yawning and feeling weak at a session last week.  One of the nurses checked his blood pressure, it was LOW.   They laid him all the way down, dialed back the machine and he was better.  The nurse told the tech that yawning often means low blood pressure, and the body is trying to take in more air.
