I had my worst ever bleeding episode from my access today. I had finished dialysis and was taking my needles out, and the first one came out just fine. When I went to remove the second one, the instant the needle came out, there was blood everywhere. I had to press down on the site almost as hard as I could, and I could still see blood PULSING out from under the gauze! I grabbed my phone with my free hand and called 911. By the time the medics got there, it looked like a murder scene. By the time we got to the hospital, the bleeding had stopped, and I only had to stay at the hospital for about an hour to make sure I was going to be ok with the blood loss. My blood pressure was low at the time, and I don't use heparin at all, so I have no idea what caused it. I just hope it doesn't happen again.

Do you still have that graft that has always given you problems? If it happens again sounds like another fistulagram maybe in order.

wow!! what the heck caused that? I do rememer seeing patients leave the center and then come running back in leaving a trail of blood behind them... Scarred me then and would terrify me if it happened at home... Im so glad your ok. Will you be getting a hemoglobin check? or was that done already?

That graft finally died about a year ago, and I had a new one put in. This is the first major problem I've had with it. I'll be seeing my neph tomorrow and I'll see what he wants to do. I'm a little nervous about using it again, so hopefully it was just a "fluke".
