Title: New Type of Dialysis Machine called Next Day??
Post by: alewis328 on September 12, 2011, 11:57:08 AM
Ok so they are planning on starting D on a new kind of dialysis that he will do at home every day. He says  it is called Next Day?  I asked him if he was sure that it wasn't NextStage but he said he was sure. Does anyone know anything about this? From what I understand, it will run everyday for 3-4 hours and is to be used with his tunnel cath that he has already, not his PD cath?
Anyone have any experience with this or even heard of it?

Say "Next Day" and "Next Stage", and you'll see how alike they sound.  I think your hubby misheard.  Believe me, if there was a new, FDA approved home hemo dialysis machine out there, we'd know about it!

It is NxStage.  I go with him tomorrow for my first hour of training. At this point they will continue to use his tunnel cath until he can have a fistula placed. IM SCARED! lol. Any thoughts, warnings, reassurances?? Anyone??  :waiting;

There is a steep learning curve at the beginning, but they are NOT going to let you go home until you are ready.

It all becomes routine after a while.  :2thumbsup;

What state are you located in ?    I'm curious, because in Wichita, there is a 3 month waiting list to get into training for NxStage.   Quite a few people here are wanting to learn it, but they seem to only have one unit to train on, and not many trainers.

Wow 3 months  I was approved and started  training within a couple weeks  the training was about 6 weeks but that was the longest part of it all,  and yes at first a bit overwhelmed, but now  its old hat.  Good luck

For most of us, dialysis is more like "Groundhog Day"--we have to do the same damn dialysis over and over and over.
