Title: SENSIPAR
Post by: pdpatty on September 03, 2011, 02:51:58 PM
Anyone taking this? Does it make you sick enough to vomit?

I take 2 30 mg a day,one in am ,which doesn't seem to make me sick ;but one in pm makes me so sick I will sometimes vomit.

I have also developed an excessive amount of mucous in sinus which drains into stomach and causes nausea. Can it be connected?

Doc also put me on low dose of Fenafrbrate(cholesterol reducer) ,wonder if anyone has or is taking this and did it make you sick.
I am sick of being sick and puking!

Yup, the Sensipar made me throw up a lot.  I finally gave up taking it - my PTH was so high anyhow that surgery was already scheduled.

I  took  sensipar  for  a few  yrs.   In the  beginning  I  got  really  bad  low  pressure, and  nausea.
I  talked to my  PD  nurse  about this.  She  told  me to  never  take  it on  an  empty  stomach.
Also  if  possible  take it  with  the  fattiest and/or heaviest  meal  (not that  she  encourage  a  fatty  meal).
I found  on  my  own  that  if I  took it  before I  went  to bed  it  worked  better  for  me.
Of course  each  case is  different,  as  we  can see  by these posts.

Sensipar  worked  beautifully  once I figured out  what  worked  for  me.
It  sure  kept  my numbers  within goal.

Hope you  find  what  works  for you  soon,  pdpatty!!

Hubby has been taking sensipar for a couple of years with no problem.  He always eats about half of his meal, takes the sensipar and then eats the rest.   He takes it with breakfast.  It does have side effects though and a major one is the nausea.

pdpatty, why are you taking 30 in the morning and 30 in the evening?  Hubby started with 30's then went to 60 mg , then back to 30's, then back to 60's and now 90's. Trying to get the dose right for him.  He takes the full dose the one time in the morning with his breakfast.  Maybe if you took the full dose at once in the morning it may not make you sick.

I  only  took  20mg   Sensipar 3x/week     (On occasion  4x/week.)

Also  .5 Calcitriol   the  4days.

My  PTH  would  sometimes  be  in the  150's  with those  doses.

I do fine with Sensipar because the alternative was the surgery which I hate.  Ask your Pharmacists.  Maybe he/she could give you suggestions.

It's interesting how it's affected people differently. I'm still on it, though technically I'm not supposed to be (apparently the govt here will only pay/support it if the patient is on dialysis so I'm going to finish up when my current script is up. My PTH is medium not huge but not where it should be which is a bit unusual. Danny not quite there yet I guess).

Anyway over the last I don't know 3-4 years I've been on it I've never had any issues with it. I had 30's and at one point was taking 2x30. I always had it in the evening, mostly because I was told to NEVER take it at the same time as calcitricol, which I've also been on at times over the journey. I have also recently been an anti-cholestorol drug (Pravastatin 10mg) and I have that at the same time and have had no issues.

Just a data point I guess.

Yes, Sensipar makes me sick to my stomach, espically if I take it w/o eating something first.

This past weekend, I mixed up my AM pills and my PM pills.  I take Sensipar (1 x 60mg) at night, but Saturday, my eyes must not have been focused, and I took, the PM pills (with the Sensipar) before I ate, and I was sick all day long.
