Title: Transplant people and other things
Post by: pagandialysis on August 15, 2011, 09:52:03 PM
Today was my dreaded appointment to see the mysterious ~spooky voice~ “Transplant People”. I had no clue who they were until today. I had only gotten pre-made form letters from them once in a while. When I got to the building, which I had already been to a thousand times before, I noticed the room number on the form. It was the same office I had gone to before I started dialysis. Needless to say I was a bit annoyed but oh well, at least I already knew them. The kidney transplant orientation was short and boring and full of things I already knew.

Then I got to talk to the same doctor who diagnosed me with IgA and as it turns out she will be my transplant surgeon. This is not to say that I am on the waiting list yet. I still have some workups and some fillings to get done first.

The real reason I am writing tonight is because I feel horrible. I feel hot but I am not running a fever, I'm at 98.3. My heart is bothering me. I assume its because I forgot to take my second round of heart meds tonight so lets hope I'm not going to have a heart attack. Unfortunately, for me I have not had a dialysis treatment since last Tuesday....darn medical transport people. I feel horrible and just don't want to go to the E.R.  :(

You've gone a week without dialysis?

That's right.

And you're wondering why you feel horrible?  I think I may have a clue... :secret;

I guess there are symptoms that they didn't tell me about then.

I'd be calling Medical Transport's manager or someone above if they are not picking you up. Calling them a couple hours before you need to be at your dialysis center to make sure they are coming and take down their name so if they do not come on time or do not show and you miss dialysis again, heads can roll because they have put your life at risk. If they do not show Tuesday, go to the ER or there won't be a need for a transplant if you get my drift. Then after the ER, chew the heck out of the transport company and possibly search for a new one..

You need to know more than the fact that toxins are building up as we speak?  How about that, on average, a person who stops D may not last longer than 2 to 5 weeks?  High potassium levels can stop your heart much faster than that and you are already having heart symptoms!

As a concerned fellow IHD member - GET YOUR BUTT TO THE ER!

I hope you're at the ER and not reading this.  Very serious situation.

The transport team needs to be reminded that dialysis is a lifesaving treatment.  Ours comes even when the rest of the city is shut down for a blizzard.  Do you have a friend who can get you there today??

 :(

Just thought of this, if you were at my transplant center, they do labs on all that come for the seminar and you would have been put in the ER or sent to the dialysis department that day. As others have stated, I hope you are getting dialyzed today.
