Top-Ranked Hospitals for Nephrology
Best Hospitals Rankings Methodology
More than 1,600 hospitals are listed in Nephrology. All are experienced in treating difficult cases—a hospital is listed only if at least 172 inpatients who needed a high level of expertise in this specialty were treated there in 2007, 2008, and 2009. The top 50 hospitals are ranked, based on score. The rest are listed alphabetically.

I seriously do not understand how Duke made the list.

Iam really surprised that Vanderbuilt did not make a higher ranking than #12th, but I guess out of all the hospitals in US, that's pretty darn good!

I agree - from everything I've heard, Duke should not be there. Northwestern is only #31, below my original transplant hospital and below University of Wisconsin, which I have long believed should be shut down. Froedtert squeaked into the top 50 by the very skin of their teeth, and they don't even deserve that. (They had their ranking with US News framed when I was last there almost 10 years ago, and they were behind Beaumont which I know should be shut down.) I took some delight in the fact that Aurora's specialists apparently have NO reputation with specialists. That's where my last two nephrologists came from, and they were hopeless.
I find these lists so interesting, even though I know they are not to be taken seriously. UCSF below UCLA? In what universe?

I'm not surprised that cleveland clinick is ranked at the top. I've never been there but I hear they are better then our OSU
