You don't normally get posts from me at this time in the morning UK. I have had a completely sleepless night tonight and it's now 5am.
I've had a bout of restless legs since I went to bed at 11.30 pm until 2.am at which point I came down had a cup of tea and a biscuit (cookie) and spent an hour and a half on the internet looking at car sales.
Went back to bed, no restless legs but just felt wide awake and never went to sleep. So 4.30 am I get up again and it's almost light. As I type this the sun has be up for about 5 minutes and it's glaring into the window so much that I can hardly see my computer screen. No point in going back to bed now. May as well stay up. :Kit n Stik; :Kit n Stik; :Kit n Stik;
PS I've just noticed that this is on the wrong message board. Please can a moderator change it to an apropriate board? Thank you

Oh, that's a terrible feeling, watching the sun come up after having no sleep at all. When that happens to me, which is occasionally but not that often, it takes me days to recover. I'm sorry to hear this. It's so boring to be awake all the damn night.

Restless leg syn drum is a pain in the arse. My husband tosses and turns most nights it drives us both mad. He has tried lots of different of meds but to no avail. Touch wood he has not had it for about 2 months, they added Folic acid to his meds, don't know if that's made the difference. Its the only thing I can think of.

Umm, thought that would be IBS not RLS and Immodium works better :banghead;
I find earl grey or giner ale work well when I get a bout of RLS. I've seen others mention drugs (the legal and not so type). I hate, hate HATE that feeling in my legs btw, nothing drives me more crazy.

I've got restless legs and insomnia...I get a little relief sometimes with Melatonin from the insomnia and I'm sitting here right now as I type with some ginger ale (I think that's what you meant)

I don't have RLS, but I do have insomnia. I have had for years, even before I was on dialysis. There are at least 2 nights a week that I don't sleep. Last night was one. I was so tired that I couldn't think straight, but I still couldn't sleep. I stayed in bed, because that's what my family doctor told me to do years ago. I got up once, to let the cat out, and fell asleep sometime between 4 and 6, cuz I didn't hear my mom leave for work

I'm a believer in getting up and having a cuppa. With the leg issue I find that getting my legs cold is a help, I never have it if my feet are cold. Bit hard doing that during our summer, but this year we are having a really cold winter in Sydney.

Yesterday, husband had a iron infusion and guess what, he slept all night, no restless leg. So the research is right iron depletion can cause RLS. He is just off for another one to day. They just give them in small doses, takes about 20 minutes.

I get Venifer and Aranesp every 2 weeks.. actually got it yesterday... so that's probably why I don't have RLS

Hi Thanks for all your replies. The restless legs (dare I say it) have improved just recently since I have been drinking a full glass of tonic water which contains an amount of quinine just before I go to bed. RLS is still there but it seems to calm down after about half an hour and then I get a good night's sleep. Hope to God it keeps working!
The doctor has now prescribed quinine and I pick up the prescription on Monday.
