Title: Pre-D, Vein mapping/Pre-surgery
Post by: Shrinkydink on July 08, 2011, 07:42:17 PM
Good evening to all. Haven't been here in a few days so just checking in with ya'll.  Had my vein mapping done today, and looks like the fistula could end up in the right arm somewhere!  Woo Hoo   :2thumbsup;  As that's where I was hoping it was going.  Within 2.5 hours of the vein mapping got the call from the nephrologist's office that I am scheduled for the fistula surgery on August 5th, 2011!  Wow, talk about being quick!!  I am excited and scared at the same time! I do know this will help extend my life, just not sure of the effect it will have on my husband!  I just need to put it in the good hands of the surgeon, nephrologist and most importantly GOD!!!  I do have some of the best, of the best here in ABQ, NM!!!  Yeah!!!  Thank God for that!!  Hope everyone has a WONDERFUL weekend and we shall talk w/you all soon!!

Take care,
~~GG~~

Are you concerned about what it will look like?  Do you think your husband will be put off by it or something?

I'm sure everything will go well.  I know it's not an easy thing to go through, but it's supposed to be the best kind of access.  If you have any more questions, just let us know.

from my knowledge, fistula is usually put below the elbow generally, unless unable too, mine is between the elbow and shoulder
blade.

you need a healing time of at least 6 weeks for it to mature and before it can be used

pump that squeezy ball everyday
good luck  :thumbup;

I am in the same boat you sailed.  I got my veins mapped, and I have an appointment with a vascular surgeon on November 1.  I hope he can find a couple of good veins.  I don't look forward to getting poked everytime I get dialysis, but I don't want an infection in my catheter either.  My wife is a cardiac nurse, and she tells me those things can get nasty.  I also hope to surf again, even though I'm 59, and have conjestive heart failure (don't worry, my ejection rate is 75, up from 19, as I used Cardio Plus and Co!10 600 mg. and fish oil to recover), thanks to these new wave jet surfboards that you don't even have to paddle!  Woo hoo.  Hope springs eternal.

Good luck on your surgery.  You will be hitting the waves in no time at all.
