Title: Crashed Again...
Post by: Dragonfly on June 15, 2011, 06:03:42 PM
The last months that I have been going to dialysis, I have been getting sick. The first time I got real sick, it was bad, a messy situation. They realized I was suppose to be getting the Iron they were giving me, so that stopped. Then I got sick because they were taking too much off, wrong dry weight. Got that adjusted, then I had a problem with the speed, they lowered that. However still getting sick. Chest feels tight can't breath, need oxygen. They come over and lower everything, flush saline in and then I am OK, but ruined for the rest of the night (I go in at 7pm for three and a half hours) and the next day. Last night I came home with a nasty headache and it was still with me this morning, feeling better but still off. I really hate getting sick there. And the chairs, why are they so damn hard and cold, they have to be the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat in. So like everyone else I take my pillow bag (as I call it) my pillow and two blankets, but it has been real cold lately, so I am thinking of switching to a bigger heavy blanket. It sucks though because they don't let you cover your chest, so I still freeze, can't put a jacket on because of the dam bp cuff. One time I covered my face and they freaked out, but I was warm, so they had to get over it! I don't see the big deal on covering your chest, I don't sleep and my daughter is there with me, so if anything happened we could call them, I would probably spot it before them anyway. If I was sleeping with no one around me then I could understand making into a ice pop. Ridiculous, really, I hate when they treat me like I am two years old and I don't know anything. I am older than some of them. Well I think I am done ranting for tonight, Thanks...   :rant;

Sounds like your dry weight needs to be adjusted again.

Not covering your chest?  >:(

For crying out loud! It's bad enough having to keep your arm uncovered!  :banghead;

I made Carl a nice shoulder warmer deal from one of those cushy blankets. It had pockets at the ends so he could tuck his hands in it and still leave his arm uncovered so his access was visible. I finished it just a week or so before his transplant....

And his clinic gave him one of those Snugglies for Christmas this past year....  they certainly have nothing against covering your chest!

I feel bad that we have these nice warmy things and you are freezing!

Would they let you take a thermos of warm tea?

But if you are getting an awful headache, it probably does mean that your dry weight is off again. If they are having to give you saline, it sounds like they pulled too much off.

When I had a cath, I could not cover my chest area.  I had a light jacket and the blood pressure cuff fits over it with no problems.  Now that my cath is out I am thinking of cutting a hole in my jacket where the fistula is to keep my arms and shoulder warm.  I plan to by hand warmers at our local outdoor store.

There's a guy in my clinic who has a fistula in his thigh. He's got trousers tailored with a zip around his upper thigh, so he unzips it for the nurse to gain access to his fistula.
