It's hard for me to write this. It is with great sadness that I tell you we've lost one of our younger members, Karen547. She has had a challenging year with the good news of getting a transplant last August, to the low of losing her mom to cancer in November. She had difficulties with infections and we hadn't seen her post since January. She was 25 years old.
Note from her sister on facebook:

Karen will very much be missed. As losing someone is the hardest part of of this community, losing someone so young is especially tragic. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and may she rest in peace. :'(

I'm quite the newbie, so I never had the pleasure of getting to know her, which I feel a bit sad about, especially considering she had the same disability i hav eSpina bifida. I hope she is at peace and that in time her family can find peace too.
-
This news has really hit me. I am quite in shock.
I know Karen wasn't posting much, but I didn't realise things were that dire.
I read this news as I celebrate my six month anniversary and this is a stark reminder just how short and precious our lives are and that we just do not know what is around the corner.
I am pretty bummed. I didn't know Karen well, but I did read her posts and wanted to know what was going on with her.
So young. such a tragic loss.
I am sad :(
my thoughts go to her sister and family.
-
What a shock!
I thought she was busy studying and things went well.
I had no idea that she was struggling so badly.
I shall miss her.
My thoughts are with her family.
Kristina.

I seriously don't know what to say....when I read this post I got emotionally angry...she was less than a year older than me. Brings back into perspective how unfair this disease is.
RIP Karen, you are back with your mom now!
-
after I saw this I went to the gym as I was soooooo angry, don't know who's ass got kicked more the gym or mine. I am just sooooooo mad Karen and her family have been through so much yet she let nothing get in the way of her hopes and dreams. I am so tired of losing members on here and there's not a damn thing we can do about it, everyone outside here thinks once you get a kidney all is good and that at times so is not the case. Karen is another loss that just breaks my heart.....
-
I saw this yesterday and thought about this all night ..... So young.... This disease makes you think about life so much differently... I was planning for retirment and what I would do when I go old..... I am not old but I am thinking that I need to get living life and go do the things that I want to while I can.... All of this makes me think that life is very short.... I am so sorry that this has happened...

:'(
-
I just noticed on another post she had her transplant on 8/2010 which makes even more sad.
-
I have avoided posting --- it is tragic, sad, unbelievable. We had our transplants 3 weeks apart. Why her? I know there isn't an answer. But she wanted a chance to be normal so much. My heart aches for her family. They must feel so lost. Feeling anger is a good way to describe my feelings, too. Transplants aren't a cure -- they are a good choice of treatment, but they come with their own set of risks. I just want to hit something!!
We will not forget Karen and we will continue to fight this disease to honor Karen. You were loved by many.
-
Such a nice girl she was, this is tragic news. Everyone can post here until I get a chance to add her to the memorial. I am going to be away for about a week so I will try and get this done before I go. Thanks Monrein for letting us know.
-
:'( no words yet.
-
My heart goes out to her family.
-
I hated reading about this. I am so sorry for her friends and family.
-
still thinking about karen loads :(
-
I'm so sorry for the family and Karen. She still had so much life to live. And she wanted to live it. I hope she is in a better place.
She will be missed here on IHD.

:'(
-
Rest in peace, dear girl.
-
Oh Karen sometime this month last year you received a kidney...I hope where you are now you are happy and healthy in your new body....miss you....
xo,
R
-
August 27th she received her kidney....
-
I am so sorry to hear this. Karen was such a wonderful girl with so much potential. I'd hoped her transplant would be her ticket forward. She was very brave considering all her family went through when her mom died of cancer and also dealing with kidney disease. I have children her age so her death seems so tragic.
-
I'm just now seeing this post. Very sad news. Rest in eternal peace, Karen. :'(
-
Geeze! four years younger than me. It's not fair!!! At least she's at peace. :angel;
-
I had not seen this post before either. This is such sad news. God Bless her.
-
Ugh I hadnt heard. Just a baby....sad. Hopefully her family knows we are thinking about them. RIP Karen.
