As some of you know, I have been been going through a pretty hard time of late. Been taken off the transplant list and have to have a triple bypass next month. Arteries have narrowed as a result of build up of calcium . At my last meeting with my neph, I posed the question outright. Do you think I will ever get back to the transplant list. He looked at me quizzically and stated: "why do you think we are going through all this?" He then asked me my age (58) and reiterated, "of course you will get back". That means so much to me. There is now light at the end of the tunnel. After my operation, I'll ask the next obvious question. How long before I get back?

Most important thing is to get as healthy as you can and stay that way! :2thumbsup;
Get through this surgery and take it one step at a time...
Here is hoping for you. :thumbup;

one step at a time even for 58 year olds

Great to hear the positive attitude from the doctor. I'm thinking positive thoughts for you, murf!

Murf - that reassurance is worth so much to you - I can't begin to imagine the sense of relief, and probably renewed purpose, you got from hearing that from the neph!
You're still young mate, you'll get back on and get that call - remember this "time out" from the list just means you're inactive, but you're still counting up "time credit" so when you get back on that will definitely count in your favour in a major way.
As for how soon you can get back on? Who can tell. I think the focus should be on getting yourself as healthy as you can post the op (but don't push things - this is your heart we're talking about!) and when that happens you'll be in the best shape to accept that donor kidney.
I'm so glad you have some light, and something (a goal) to keep you positive and motivated - this is a great thing!!!

Richard, you have an innate way of putting people's feelings into words. I reckon you must have great empathy. Also many thanks to all the well wishers.
