I came across this artical published this month. It seems that Zebra fish can regrow their nephrons, so there's a possibility that someone might find the key to a regrowth procedure for Homo Sapiens. Click (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/02/110201122538.htm)
The artical goes on to warn that the prognosis for ESRD patients is worse than for cancer patients, with only a third surviving 5 years of dialysis. No hope for me then. :'(
