Seriously, I hate hemo (but then who really doesn't). The worst part is I was on PD for 8 years then got a transplant that failed in less than 2 years. Because of the scar tissue I can not do PD. When I started hemo I was on 3rd shift (2:45pm) and hated it. I finally got a 6:00 am time and loved it. Well in trying to get on PD (4 surgeries later) I lost my early time spot because PD work for like a week, then stopped. Now I am back on the 3rd shift and hate hate hate it. It makes me emotional for some reason. Everyone is home and I am at dialysis. I call to see if they have an early opening (they used to all the time) now they don't seem to. I try to have a good attitude, but its not working. How can I handle this well? Suggestions?

Have you ever considered training to do hemo at home? Then you could be at home AND at dialysis.

I hope to do that next year. I don't have a fistula yet. I have a cath right now because I was hoping to do PD, so I never had a fistula placed. That is a whole new fear because I have such small veins and their is no promise of an AV fistula so I can do the buttonhole. Needles scare me to death.

You are statistically better off, in terms of mortality, to be in the afternoon shift because it has been shown that patients who have dialysis early in the morning have slightly higher incidence of vascular/cardiac events. So tell yourself that you are better off in the afternoon, and in fact you are (by about 25%).
