Is it just me or does this bug everyone? We have a new nurse started this week, who doesnt look a day over 15! I know she's not 15, but she is very young and new to hemo. Well twice she has put me on and each time she calls me 'lovie' and i really hate it ! Im not an old dear, nor am i senile. I bit my tongue twice but some how i dont think she will be 3rd time lucky ! Oh and the look on her face when i said, just hook me up , you can leave the settings to me was priceless ...Welcome to KICKSTARTS World ! >:D
-
:cheer: Good for you for telling her to just hook you up and that you would take care of the rest! I love it! Take it easy on the poor girl when you let her know that you are not her "Lovie", she may end up being a good nurse and you may want her on your side:)
-
oh heavens just send her my way. I'll sort her out!!! >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D :rofl;
-
Wish someone would call me Luvvie.
-
Yeah we do call people 'love' over here but its just the way she says it its so condescending . Sax-o-trix , when you come to know me you will find i dont bother about nurses being on my side , but for the most part they are all fine with me.
RM , if i sent her to you , i think you might be in for a shock , she has already got the makings of a Matron ! and this is only 2 weeks in on our unit ! I find it annoying that someone who has done about 6 months dialysis training , sweeps in and tells someone who not only has done it for years, but has also probably learnt more, that they know best ! Yesterday was a prime example ..went very dry in the last hour, called her in , thought i will give her the chance to sort it (thats how to learn) and what does she do ? reduces my pump speed and carries on taking fluid ! Needless to say , soon as she walked away i changed everything and sorted it :2thumbsup;
-
Why do I get the sudden image of KS doing her best Paul Hogan (NOT Ricky G!) impression as the nurse walks away "That's not a matron!" and points to herself... "now THIS is a matron!!!"
:rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :2thumbsup; :2thumbsup;
-
Yeah cobber too right !!! :rofl;
-
Every time she calls you 'Lovie" call her 'Sweet Cheeks'. That oughta stop her.
-
Call her 'Poppet' and ask if she's done her homework yet.
;D
(I hate the way everybody looks so young these days ... grrr.)
-
At least she doesn't call you "A**hole!" I'd be more concerned about her skill level--or lack of than whatever endearments she uses. But if you really hate it, just remind her what your real name is every time she uses the L word. L-WORD, VERA

The reason they are so young looking is because we are so old ::)

Needlephobic, you took the words right out of my mouth. Ever try going back to your old high school and looking at the kids? Boy, I thought when I went back, these kids are so small!!!
-
Don't forget, you are the one ultimately in control of your body. I was always asking questions whenever they were doing something I was unfamiliar with; thats how I wound up doing hemo at home. And unfortunately, they sometimes make mistakes, so be your own advocate. The system at my unit still has my dry weight wrong, after after several weeks, and every time I go on, I have to remind them of my correct dry weight. its in the system too high, and if I never said anything, who knows how much extra fluid I would have on by now!!!!!!

Don't you use the expression "Mi Duck" and "Eay up mi duck" up in Lancs KS?
Or is that just for White Rose country and not used by Red Rose inhabitants?

I vote for this response!
My parents used to call me 'luvie'! This would not be at all helpful or soothing to hear ever again from anyone. (My mother also used to call me bubalah, but I think that was due to overexposure to our Jewish relatives. I think I heard her call one of my sons that recently, so I guess some habits are tough to shake.)
-
Well Lovie! :rofl; :rofl;
