According to the UK NHS National Institute for Clincial Excellance:

People with chronic kidney disease are roughly twenty times more likely to die of cardiovascular disease than to progress to end-stage renal failure.

So if you've got there without dropping dead of a heart attack first, you're beating the odds! Congratulations!!  :beer1;

Do you all think that this is true partly because people don't get good enough pre-dialysis care?  If you and your doctor KNOW you are at much higher risk for heart attacks, don't you think that more effort would be put into avoiding that fate?  What have you and your doctor done to reduce your risk?

due to my ER visit back in April which was when I as diagnosed with kidney failure due to high blood pressure they also said that there was possibly some damage done to my heart sooooo I had several follow up appts, ekgs etc done with a Cardio Dr.
Finally after those visits he told me my heart was doing ok but I do have to take Coreg twice a day. He said other than a small amount of fluid my heart as ok. I have to see him in 6 months.
So I assume they are following my heart closely.

I don't know that study is news...certainly not to me...it was the first thing I was told when I went on dialysis. Apparently your heart has to work overtime to push your blood around your body plus sometimes several litres of fluid that your kidneys can't excrete. This is why breathing difficulties accompany chronic KD. Dialysis has 2 objectives...get the poisons out of your blood and get the fluid out.

I'm not sure this was a Victory I've been envisioning but waking up alive does seem like a positive outcome.  So HURRAY for me...I'm now at 15 percent....I'm a Winner!!!!
