Title: Question for the men on dialysis
Post by: del on October 03, 2010, 07:27:25 AM
Hubby has been on dialysis for 13 years and hasn't peed for the last 10 (since starting hemo). Every now and again he passes a little bit of blood as if he were peeing.  Doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes he doesn't see anything for months and then he will have this little bit of blood for a few days.  He went to the doctor a couple of years ago and had tests done and nothing was found.  One doc thought it might be from a dry bladder??  Any body else ever have this?

Blood in the urine should always be checked out by a urologist. Some of the causes of blood in the urine can be serious:  Kidney stones, cancer, etc.

I had that last year. Happened only once then never again. Went to PCP for it they didn't know what to make of it so they said if it happens again they will refer me to a urologist but it didn't so I dropped the issue.

My husband didnt pee for almost three years but would pass 10 to 15 drops of moisture. He had a double nephrectomy (seperatly) so had no way to make pee- a Dr speculated is was condensation, it was sometimes bloody too.

Hubby went to our family doctor. He was having pains in his sides and a pressure like he wanted to urinate as well as the blood. Doc put him on antibiotics for an infection.  Blood, pain and pressure has stopped.  I was talking to his dialysis nurse today and she said it probably was an infection.  She said it happens sometimes with a dry bladder. Things get irritated!!
