Well, my subject line tells about all...Im giving it my all to watch people get the needles on the internet, and then finally!!!! was brave enough to watch hubby get his.. I swear i felt like i accomplished doing it myself by just watching..lol I have a pretty big fear of even watching much less doing it myself. Anyway, i, and the techs were very proud as they know i want to "get over it!" and do my hubbys needles so he has one less reason to HATE dialyses (by knowing whos going to needle him)Now,,,,, my problem is, i was told that "probably" i wont be aloud to anyway as only the patient or tech are aloud to do that "in center". Any knowledge of this by anyone? I could see the "whys" but im sure hopeing that it wont hold to be the truth.. Any info would be appreciated...

I'm not sure of the policy at your clinic but, have you ever thought about home hemo? It's really not that bad and you would control the whole treatment.

Our center has a lady who sticks herself, adjusts the machine, and disconnects herself. All they do is give her, her meds, and clean the machine. It's like she isn't even there.
And, I'm sure they don't want you sticking your husband at the center, for liability reasons.

We do NxStage at home and I do her needles, She is in the hospital right now and her Neph wrote in her orders that I do her sticks and no problem at all from them, maybe you can get your doc to do the same.....

Thank you ALL :-)
And Silverhead, i hope all is well with your wife.
And,Im planning on getting trained for the Nxstage, but not ready to take the 'at home' thing on yet. I "think" and hoping, that so long as im trained, AND i can get a note from my dr ;) i'll be able to do the sticking myself. (geesh, i NEVER thought id say that with my fear of the whole thing) He started his buttonholes today (quite a surprise, thought we had a big wait) so we're on our way... Thanks again to all.. Hoping to make things a bit better for him, and you all are such help.

Boswife, thanks for your concern, I will tell my news about Sharon in the Caregivers section.
About sticking your husband, I do not like needles at all, never have, but I knew that buttonholes were the way to go and if we were to do home hemo I would have to learn, we had a really fantastic lady in clinic that was the only one to start and continue her buttonholes and showed me every time exactly what she was doing, until we started training and on the second day the nurses handed them to me and said have at it - I was successful from the beginning and found it was not an unpleasant experience, we have been doing it for over three years now and no infiltrations so far. I'm sure you can do the same......

thanks silverhead (i gotta tell you i just got the biggest laugh because i first wrote "thanks grayhead" lol and thought i best be looking back at your post to make sure i got it right...OOPS..lol i like *silverhead* much better ;D ) Anyway, i really want to thank you for your input.. It is so reasuring that we're doing the right thing when you hear these things from fellow dialisizers..(???) is that a word??
And,,,once again, i hope all is well with your wife. (checking caregivers section) My hubby has caught my cold and im fearing he/we may end up in hospital with it. I get so afraid of this stuff sometimes.. It's so much harder on their health..
