finally!!! Went in yesterday and they where there OMG ! Well what fun and games i had, NO ONE warned me that the anti-sickness one (cant remember its name) was a sedative as well !!! I was given it IV and it was like i was stoned within about 5 mins , not that i've ever been stoned :angel;. I was totally aware of everything but couldnt sit up at all and remember i spent alot of time waving to whoever walked past me :rofl; Yay, it worked and wore off about 20 mins before the end AND i did my 4 hours !!!. The bad news the painkiller didnt touch me and for the last hour my head was exploding (thats what usually makes me sick) so its back to the drawing board for that one. I was only started on one tablet , so maybe i need 2 ? Actually thinking about it , they could use that anti-sickness one to help with the stress of needles im sure , i was so chilled and laid back off it !

maybe u should take the pain pill later in the treatment,
also for the stress... antianxiety pills, like zanex or ativan

I'm just wondering if you take the pain pill orally? I guess they put it in your IV line. If it is oral, most oral medications take about 30-45 minutes to dissolve and start getting into the bloodstream. A pain pill might be a little bit quicker. Just becareful about driving if you drive yourself to dialysis.

Yeah TS the 'pain pill' is only Ibrupofen , so its not much better than paracetamol. I cant take codine or anything stronger , i have a reaction to them. Thanks first thing i did was check i was safe to drive , a few people are on the same meds who drive. By the time you have finished its all dialyised out. Which is what i think is happening with the painkiller, even though i dont take it till later in the treatment.

I did a quick search, and it looks like ibuprofen isn't dialyzed out very quickly - something like 15% over a standard session. That said, I don't think ibuprofen would be that effective against that kind of headache. I'm not a biochemist and I'm kinda talking out of my :sir ken; , so don't take what I say as the truth, but ibuprofen targets only a certain kind of pain reaction associated with actual injury and inflammation. It seems to work for tension headaches, but it never worked for my high blood pressure headaches, and I doubt it'd work for whatever mechanism is causing your headaches - electrolyte fluctuations, sudden fluid or blood pressure changes, or whatever.
I think your doctor might just be guessing about what could treat your headache (but don't blame him - I don't think anyone really knows what causes headaches on dialysis), so if you can't get relief with what he prescribed in a reasonable amount of time, see if you can get him to try something else. What codeine-like drugs have you tried? I've found that I get sick on codeine and hydrocodone (Vicodin - not sure what the name brand is over there), but I'm fine on propoxyphene (Darvocet) and oxycodone (Percocet) - all in combination with paracetamol. It might be worth it to try out different things, but it sounds like that might be hard with your doctor(s).

Thanks Restorer , yeah i think im going to have to tackle my neph again (oh dear) Anything with codine in it upsets my stomach for days and i know we have different brand names over here. I was once given something called Tramadol , lordy that was strong had me flat on my back in no time , so that combined with the IV sickness one might just knock me out totally! (who said thats a good idea? ;D ) I think the next step up from that is morphine ! If i can crack the pain thing then great! ..well ok not great but better ! Oh and something has left my mouth so dry today and me a bit off colour , i wonder if its the anti-sickness one ? I feel queasy and have no saliva at all, so my fluid intake has gone up ! Little sips all day long .

... and remember i spent alot of time waving to whoever walked past me :rofl;
Haha! Love that! Don't love the fact that your head is still exploding though. Hope they can get that sorted soon.
