Title: First Use for New Graft
Post by: JScott1753 on September 13, 2010, 10:12:57 PM
  Hello, everyone!
Just a quick update. Tomorrow will be the first use of my new graft that was inserted three weeks ago. Got the clearance from the surgeon today.
Of course, that means it won't be long til catheter removal(yay!). Guessing that will be in two weeks or so.
The really good thing about this graft is that my surgeon said he was able to find a larger vein to use this time. Good news since I have small, small veins.
Being a graft, no buttonholes, but I can deal with it.
  Jon

A graft is similar to a Fistula, but instead of using your own viens/artery it uses man made material.

The very first thing I did when my cath came out was go for a swim. What a glorious feeling being in the water again! I didn't know how much I missed it so.
I didn't miss showers because I had always taken showers with my cath, but I kept it covered well with large Tegaderms.
