Title: I need to vent about my "D thing center
Post by: Hubbs on July 30, 2010, 05:38:41 AM
 :secret;
It's been over 6 month now since I started the D thing  that I call it.   as you know. I'm deaf. I wasn't born deaf I lost it in my adulthood.. some say it was cuz of my kidneys deteriorating.  anyways...   I didn't want to make waves so i just did what they told me and well just sat back and analyzed everything and the ppl who work there. pick the techs from the nurses.. some of the techs should not even be working there.. OMG! some are really slow others try too hard. some just don't give a damn..  I try to get to know them anyway.. I talk to some and I let some just do there job.  but now I am speaking up..  I don't care if i piss them off.. cuz they piss me off first.
Okay.. since I'm new. i don't know if these things been posted. so bare with me.
1. the BP cuffs get too tight! when it's taken my BP.   I developed a very sore arm and shoulder since i started.  they don't want to take the time to take my BP manually. but  my next time there. I'm going to incise. or not have it done at all.. anyone deal with this before?  can i buy my own cuff and have ti hooked up just for me?
2. oh so many techs!  they rotate them from center to center  chair to chair.  they don't a sine just one.  you get a different tech every week. I'm lucky to have one for the 3 days then change. sometimes i get a different one every time i go.  :Kit n Stik; one thing i  found out..  I am the boss.  (yes they told me this) so don't feel you are venerable there.  speak your mind its your life. and they are there for YOU.  but seriously. i do help out when ever I can. I give them Idea's  I help other patents  .  I see ppl  come in do the d thing and go.. i think about me. i have to take a bus that comes to pick me up and drop me off.. so i got a good ensues to hang around more.  so i take the time to help the ppl who ride with me. i.e. cheer them up.. help them pack and if they are in a wheelchair  (manual)  i help them into it and bring them to the bus. and help load them. (shug)  I been helping ppl all my life. it comes naturally  :angel;

Just a thing about your bp cuff getting tight , the reason it usually does this , is if your bp is high !  Yes they do go tight , otherwise it doesnt get a reading . Mine does is every time , sometimes i get pins and needles in my fingers , but its only on for a couple of mins , so i just get on with it. You say you sometimes only get the same tech for a week at a time ..i get a different staff member every session ! I do agree with you what you say about the nurses , some really shouldnt be there !  :2thumbsup;

Hi Kickstart, no i don't have high BP,  its low. and it hits rock bottom when i'm plunged into the thing. alarm goes off every time it's taken. LOL. i'm in la la land most of the day after the  D thing..  well i'm ganna try to change that .. so my arm can heal. i can't even throw a ball with out the pain... I got one really cool Male nurse named Jim.. he ganna take me fishing on his boat when he gets his motor  (blew up the last one)    :rofl;

There is an adjustment on the automatic BP cuff.  They can set it to inflate to a certain number say 200.  I've had problems and I just take it off if it hurts.  Maybe use your other arm or your leg..... depending on where your access is.

A long time ago we were assigned a nurse and a tech.  It was heaven.  But, people would build emotional bonds and that seemed to be unhealthy especially when someone would pass on.  So, now we never get the same tech or nurse twice in a row.  I miss that.  I like being able to build trust with my tech.

I wouldn't like not having the same people.  Like I've said before, there are 12 nurses, 2 support staff and 2 students in my unit.  I may not have the same one every day, but the same ones are always there, so you get to know them and their personalities, which ones you can joke with and which ones it's better not to.  I've been at this unit for almost 2 years, and in that time 3 have died (that I know of), so it happens.  It's part of life, you have to learn to deal with it.

I would be incredibly uncomfortable if there was different people there all the time

About the cuff,tell them to usr your arm just above the wrist. I cannot bear the pain of it on my upper arm. Some have tried but I remind them they do not want this fat lady on the floor screaming in pain.
They have argued with me about not getting proper readings but I will NOT let them use my upper arm.

As for techs changing,we hardly ever have the same tech twice in any week. We generally have a new one every day. Some are good,one is especially slow,others act like they don't care while others are great and know what they are doing.

You have the right to refuse to be stuck by any tech you don't trust.

Hi Ya!. yep.  And I just noticed there are different cuff's on some. and the Blue ones seem to just blow up like balloons but the dark blue/black? ones are more stable when put on the foams. so i'm going to try the dark blue ones for the foams. tech. i get them  sometimes for the 3 visits then they change.  it only sucks when i get the sl0wpoke/talker. he don't talk to me. but to the other techs.. stops what he's doing and blah blah blah.. grrrrrrrrrrrrb.. all in all. they do take good care of me..  I just have to reflect to them that I know that I"m the boss.
