I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced any ill side effect after taking this. This is the bottle you take if you missed dialysis say to severe weather or something. My husband just took a bottle ( you drink it). He took it because the unit has been on him to do so since he refuses to go a third day week. (won't get into THAT one) A while back the wife of a patient said they gave her husband potassium binder in the hospital and it gave him very, very severe diarrhea. I can't think in my mind that this is like taking an antacid. I am concerned about the possibilities of danger. Any info would be helpful plus, I'll let you know how it goes in case anyone else should ever need to take one. Thanks for everything (all the time!) You guys (and gals) are great!

Are you talking about Sodium Polystyrene? I was given a bottle of it (the liquid form, thank God) when my K was very high and I didn't clear well. I only took one dose of it. I don't recall diarrhea though.

When I had hyperkalemia they made me drink 6 bottles of the stuff (SPS Solution). I was on the toilet all night but it worked, got my K down overnight.

It appears no unwanted sides from using 1 bottle. I'm glad he did take it at least.

I took it when my pd stopped working and was changing over to hemo as my levels got really high . No side effects but it tasted like :puke;

Really? Why do you take it regularly? Is your K always high? They told me just to take it in an emergency like when I ate a lot of potassium and won't be going to dialysis for a few days. I still have the same bottle they gave me last year. Hey, since you've been taking it so long, do you remember back before it came in liquid form? Remember the chalky powder that you had to mix in water that tasted so very much worst than this liquid stuff?

I am also wondering why you take so much of it ? Do you not watch your diet ?

You're not on dialysis yet. Is that correct?

You are correct, i am not on dialysis yet and my potassium levels are over 5 most times. I do watch my diet but most everything has potassium. I am at 17% and holding, I take the powder stuff and you are right it is nasty tastes like sand and mud.

The Kxolate blew my instine so I will never take it again. I ended up with a colostomy for 9 months.
If you are on dialysis and they are saying your potassium is high insist on 1k. It is a potassium bath that takes out more potassium than 2k.
They use to use it all the time but don't anymore except in the hospital. God forbid they would have to MIX it special!
