Does any here take this med. Do you get sick (nausea) about 2 hours after taking it?
But the most important, has you `bad' colesterol risen when taking it?
-
i take 60 mg of Sensipar and I don't notice any side effects. It does really control my PTH well, but also lowers my calcium. I was on 90mg but they dropped that because my calcium dropped way too low. I asked them if I increased my consumption of milk, cheese and yogurt would that increase my calcium and they told me no yet put me back on Tums. *grrrr*
I haven't had my lipid profile checked recently since mine were perfect before. I should ask for it.

I've developed an allergy to Sensipar (known as Cinacalcet here in the UK). Sickness was the least of the problems it caused; no, I can't take it anymore.
-
Yes to the nausea. I take it at bedtime so I sleep through it. My bad cholestrerol (and all the others) have gone up. Hmmm.
-
I'm on 30mg (the lowest dose) and have no issues with taking it - I feel nothing.
It is so good at reducing my PTH it actually got too LOW at one point and we had to lower the frequency of taking it!
Interestingly my cholestorol has gone DOWN since I've been on S. I hadn't noticed the correlation until thinking about it in conjunction with this post - a nice side effect if the two are related :)

RichardMel, Renvela (Renagel) is known to lower some cholestorol (as well as testosterone).

Testosterone huh? So when I get told I'm being like a girl I can blame Sensipar?!! Awesome! :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
Thanks Zach, you are the fountain of knowledge!

Always glad to help, mate!

Jenn used to take Sensipar before her parathyroidectomy. The only way she could take it was with Phenergan at night before she went to bed. Phenergan is an antihistamine that keeps your body from reacting to the Sensipar. It also makes you VERY sleepy.
She no longer takes Sensipar but she still has high triglycerides. The doctor recently told her to take fish oil caplets. We'll see how that works. She used to take tricor when she had a transplant with no problems.
