For the past year or so I've had no appetite. I can easily go the whole day eating nothing and not feel the slightest bit of hunger.
I'm sure I shall be on HD shortly. Can anyone tell me if my appetite will return when I start dialysis?
-
It may not go back to normal quickly, but I would say yes. Your appetitie is gone because your body is all out of wack and as dialysis puts things a little bit more in order you will want to eat.
Also - Congrats on 1,000 posts!
-
Go out to walk for 2-3 hours a day and your appetite will return.
-
Pre-D I used to force myself to eat and had very little appetite...on D it was much better and with transplant I am very careful about not eating too much since my appetite is huge.
As hard as it is to eat now, try not to get too malnourished until D starts.
-
Yeah, Stoday, once you're on D, your appetite will improve and you will be able to stuff yourself with spotted dick to your heart's content.
-
Mine returned second day in hospital.

I am not even going to ask you what Galvo means that you can eat to your hearts content, LOL!!!!!

Well, that's another thing to look forward to when I start. As for Spotted Dick, I'll have to write that one up in the Yummy/yucky thread.
:clap; @ Jie. Reminds me of an incident several decades ago at Speakers' Corner in London. A guy was boasting that he could answer any question. So I said no one yet knew why I or everyone else had to sleep every day. His response was 'Cos you're so f'kin lazy'...
Thanks for the responses.

Hi Stoday,
Just a kidding. You do need to walk as much as you could each day. After starting dialysis and with improvement of protein intaking, you will have energy to walk and will feel a need to eat.
-
No, you are going to end up a size zero and fall down a grid ! :rofl;
-
Hubby's appetite returned big tme once he started dialysis.
-
I am like you, Stoday. It is 9pm and while reading this, I realized I haven't had breakfast or lunch. Maybe I need to eat something now! lol The hunger "trigger" just doesn't go off anymore. And if I could walk 2-3 hours a day, I would be working full time and living life to it's fullest. :rofl; Oh, I remember, I couldn't walk 2-3 hours before kidney issues! :rofl;

I've been on dialysis for 8 months and my appetite hasn't gotten better it has actually gotten worse so going on dialysis doesn't always help.

Have those of you lacking appetite consider this ?

I guess this is one of differences between PD and HD. I never had any appetite problems with PD.

I should add that my appetite has remained good while having the couple of months on haemo as well.
