Title: It's possible that I might be able to go off of dialysis!

Over the last month or so, I have been gradually having more urine output, and about two weeks ago I actually had NORMAL urine output, which I still have. Also over the last month I have missed A LOT of dialysis because I've been gone a lot visiting my grandmother in the hospital. My prescription is six days/week, but I've only been getting two to three tx/week. One would thing I would be under dialyzed, but my labs are still good, and I feel stronger than I've felt in years. My centre had me do a 24hr urine test, and when we get the results, my doctor will determine if I can reduce or go off of dialysis for a while. I should find out in a few days. I'll let you all know what I find out.

I was very interested to read that you say your kidneys might have recovered
to the point when Dialysis can be reduced or even stopped.

Many years ago I was told that Dialysis makes the kidneys lazy
& therefore the kidneys would not re-gain enough strengths to function unassisted again.

I would be interested to know from you if modern treatments are available which
enable the kidneys on Dialysis to function again without Dialysis?

I have only ever been under the impression that if the kidneys are going to recover,
recovery would only be possible before Dialysis and not after.

Perhaps modern treatment now makes it possible?

I got my latest blood results today, and I'm down to three days a week instead of six. My KT/V was 2.5 which is better than it was when I was on six day/week. Next time I see my doctor in person, she will go over everything and we will see if I can stop dialysis. I have actually heard of this happening before, but it's so rare, we are all absolutely surprised and delighted. I'll keep updating as I find things out.

Wow Adam that's fantastic for you - even if you've cut your D by half that's a massive improvement for you - have you seen other effects of improving function(hopefully!) like more energy, peeing more, etc?

Hoping you can get off D and have a less restricted diet, more energy etc - that would be THE LIFE!!!
