Title: Seeing stars while on dialysis machine ?
Post by: Dianejt on June 16, 2010, 08:17:04 AM
Morning all,

Well today Frank is having his 4th dialysis session here at the hospital. He was admitted last week with hemorrhaging from his remaining kidney into his neophrostmy tube.  Then the tube clotted up & could not be opened with flushing. His urologist determined that by not doing anything for a period of time the pressure build up in the kidney with urine & blood would stop the bleed. this is now day 6 & they are going to replace the neprostomy tube today. His bag has some urine in it today, bloody but defiantly urine although not much volume. They did a catscan 2 days ago & feel the the tube has shifted & is not in proper position for drainage. :pray;

Back to my question about the dialysis, he said that he was sleeping this morning while dialysizing & the doc came in & woke him up. He said (not to the doctor or nurse but to me 1 hour later) that he is seeing stars. I asked the nurse & he said his blood pressure has been fine. They did call the doctor & let him know. I did tell the tech that the past 2 times after dialysis he was sick to his stomach :puke; after returning to his room & they did give him medicine to help him. Is this a side effect anyone has had? The nurse didn't know why. The nepro Doc said it may be a side effect from they pain meds he is on.

Thanks

The first time I dialyzed, way back in 1985 I was sick to my stomach and felt quite wretched for the first few weeks.  I started D on an emergency basis and so had a high level of toxins.  I was told that the body actually adjusts to a degree to being "poisoned" and so once D starts it takes a while to become used to being "cleaner" and to get used to the shifting electrolytes.  The last time I started back was not nearly so hard to get used to but I hadn't deteriorated quite so far either.

I hope things improve and soon too.   :cuddle;

Please don't worry it can take a few months for a renal patients body get use to hemo. Nearly every patient is sick on the machine from time to time. But more so patients who have just started. He will get better, once he gets use to hemo.

When i was on hemo this was common for me, almost every time i had it. it was weird, i told the dr and he said it sometimes happens nothing can be done about it. Im sorry that doesnt help, but at least u can know ur not the only one, so its probably "normal"
