Frank had his first dialysis this morning (3hours). The AV fistula seamed to be doing well, getting large, good thrill until he started with this stomache fistula, now they are saying it is not mature. I'm thinking it has do do with his nutritional status as he has been on TPN for 4 weeks today. Problem at every corner we turn.
This morning session they where able to draw off 1000 units. Then as soon as the session was over they brought him down to radiology & checked the AV fissula, ended up putting anoughter cathater in his left chest. Now he has a nephrostomy tube, hickman cath, dialysis cath & 2 drains in his abdomen. Poor guy!
The nurse in the center was very nice & explained everything to me & answered many of my question. He will be going back tomorrow again & then Monday. Since he is still in the hospital this will all take place here. We are planning on doing Nxstage once we get trained.
I hope this makes him feel better, latley has been tough.

Frank is certainly going through a tough time! But it sounds to me that most likely things are going to start improving. You are making great steps towards solving the problems and right now might be a low point. I speak from experience. So keep the faith. Best wishes, Sid

Dialysis is no good without a good access. Don't let him leave the hospital without one. Now, he doesn't need six.... just one.

That is a tough road he is on. I hope things begin to go better.
