Title: Hello everyone,I am back!
Post by: zona on May 17, 2010, 07:16:13 PM
Hi everyone! It has been months since I posted anything. Sorry, wish I had come back sooner. I am having labs drawn every Monday now because of the extra diuretics I am on. Today they came back with a bun of 86 and creatnine 3.80. Uric acid was high as well,I ended up in the hospital over the weekend. I woke up in the middle of the night with the most intense pain in my right big toe! Felt like it was being ripped off and I could barely put my foot down to walk! The er gave me a morphine drip,which did not even touch the pain and ended up knocking me out with something stronger. My diagnosis was an extreme gout attack because of the uric acid in my blood. I really feel dialysis is going to be a reality for me in the next few weeks,because I am tired and I am just ready to hopefully have some better days,cause this is nowhere. I think the fear of the unknown and just waiting to be sick enough to require dialysis is finally getting to me. What is the magic number for starting dialysis,can someone please tell me!! My gfr is 13% My hemoglobin is 10,I have itching,nausea,I hate that the most ,and I just feel kinda weird. Sometimes I feel like I am sinking..I know that does'nt make sense but it is the only way I can describe it! Does anyone understand what I mean,it is just this weird sort of feeling,maybe potassium related? I am glad to be back on here and hope everyone is doing well, Zona

Glad you are back Zona, but not too happy to hear of all the bad symptoms you are having. Hope they start you soon so that you can feel more like a  human being.

Thanks guys, I have an appointment with my neph. coming up very soon. I think I am going to tell her I have had enough and I want to start dialysis. I am otherwise healthy and don't want to jeoperdize that any longer.

Your hemoglobin is WAY down.  Which in turn will take your energy and use it up just getting out of bed.  I am surprised your Neph hasnt called you in to begin Epo/Aranesp shots, which once started should make you feel much better.  Not 100% but you will feel much more energized i assure you.
I understand what you mean about the sinking feeling.  I work fulltime and had sunk very low.  Taking naps at lunch time which i have never done in my life.  Once i was started on Arenesp(sp) those feelings of loss of power and sleepiness faded.  Also if and when they start you on epo/arenesp make sure to keep an eye on your Iron.  Aranesp will produce red blood cells but them cells cant be made unless you have proper amount of iron in your system.

I would say you are feeling about like i was (from the sounds of it) when i started dialysis.  And i feel MUCH better now.

best of Luck

I went to see my Neph last week and my BUN was 116 and my creat was 5.6, GFR 8.  He told me it was time.  My worst symptom was no energy.  I started feeling a little nautious, but other than that, was ok.  Doc put me in hospital for 5 days and yesterday was my first in center treatment.  I felt great in the hosp. but not so great last night.  They need to get my meds straightened out.  I am sure I will feel better though.  Good Luck!!!  :cuddle;
